Commissioner Ken Stewart: Three Countries in One Day

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Thursday, June 21, 5:45 p.m. Central European Summer Time (CEST)

We have been very busy since leaving Georgia. Our delegation visited three countries wednesday, meeting with a variety of different businesses to thank them and to encourage them to expand their  business in Georgia.

After an early morning departure from our hotel in Dublin, it was off to the airport where we got on a plane to fly to Staffordshire in England where we had met with executives at JCB after touring their state of the art manufacturing facility.  This construction equipment manufacturer has impressive operations throughout the world making everything from backhoes to bulldozers. The company employs about 210 Georgians at their facility in Pooler as well as a number of others at their different dealers across the state.  We were happy to hear of the success of their Georgia plant and encouraged them to bring even more business to our state.

Following lunch, it was time to go right back to the airport and fly to Paris.  There, we hurried straight from the airport to Imerys to meet with the company’s CEO, Gerard Buffiere.  In addition to locations in Chatham, Cherokee, Cobb, Elbert, Gilmer, Pickens, Twiggs, Washington, and Whitfield counties, Imerys has its US headquarters.

We ended our day with a productive dinner in Paris attended by a significant prospect.
