Lt. Governor Cagle: Brasilla - Georgia’s Gateway to Brazil

Today, we rushed through a packed day of meetings in Brasilia, the capital city of Brazil.  Brasilia was built from scratch a few decades ago, and is dedicated almost exclusively to government.

My day began with an early breakfast with the U.S. Ambassador to Brazil at his residence.  We discussed several issues, including developing additional direct flights from Atlanta to Brazil.

Lt. Governor Cagle and Carlos Alfredo Teixeira survey the Casa Civil, the executive branch building of Brazil. Teixeira is the Special Advisor to the Chief of Staff to the President.

After breakfast, we visited key leaders in the national ministries of commerce, state and treasury.  I also visited Brazil’s national congress and talked with senate leaders about the ties between Georgia and Brazil.  Additionally, we met with two of President Lula’s advisors to build new ties between our two governments.

Our first goal was to thank Brazil for opening a large consulate in Atlanta.  This will open a new gateway for Georgia businesses seeking to sell goods to one of the worlds largest and most rapidly growing economies.

Lt. Governor Cagle and Carlos Alfredo Teixeira, also the Former Councul General for Brazil in Atlanta, meet together in Casa Civil.

Of equal importance, we agreed to set a date to bring a group of top Brazilian business leaders to Georgia later this year.  It is our expectation this kind of exchange will lead to new jobs in Georgia and trading opportunities for existing businesses.
